With screenshots like this, the developers of Titan Quest 2 on Steam want to whet your appetite for more.
It is not yet clear when exactly it will be released. It is available on Steam under the heading Release: soon. But there is no doubt that Titan Quest 2 is coming. At one point, a sequel to the action role-playing game was hardly imaginable, after all, the predecessor is already 18 years old.
Now the developers are showing new screenshots of Titan Quest 2, with the focus on the open world as well as the level and map design. You can take a look at the pretty environments and detailed buildings in our gallery.

Environmental storytelling is an essential component
On Steam, developer Grimlore Games writesthat they had the history and mythology of ancient Greece in mind when designing the game world. At the same time, the environment should serve gameplay and story:
»Environmental storytelling is an integral part of our level design process and helps reinforce the theme and function of each location.«
According to the developers, the open world itself is supposed to be a mixture of freely accessible areas and sights. The creators attach great importance to the fact that every stone was placed by hand. This world is repeatedly broken up by smaller places or structures that can provide side quests, for example:
“By hand-crafting each area, we can leverage navigation features and reward those who want to explore every nook and cranny. Look out for hidden paths and ledges to jump from – you never know what’s on the other side!”

A basic element of Titan Quest is the mythology, which will also play a major role in the second part. In the sequel, players once again struggle with gods and monsters in Greece – as you can read in our preview. In the blog entry, Grimlore Games (Spellforce 3) writes:
“A dilapidated shrine with a mysterious riddle could be an opportunity to gain the favor of a god, while a relic of the Titans could be hidden beneath the earth, waiting to turn the unsuspecting into monsters.”
The developers write that they want to use these techniques to create a world that captures the magic of the first part and conveys the feeling of a modern action role-playing game. However, the developers do not provide any information about a specific release date for Titan Quest 2 in their developer diary. Fans will therefore have to wait a little longer.
