Wake up, my dear. Todd McFarlane has once again said that his Spawn movie reboot is almost complete.
The thing about pop culture news is that sometimes you can feel like you’re stuck in a weird Groundhog Day -type situation, and perhaps the most infamous example in recent memory is the long-hyped big-screen Spawn reboot, which aims It’s about correcting the mistakes of the not-so-good 1997 movie. Spawn creator Todd McFarlane has been working extremely hard on it, but his rather hollow updates (save for some solid casting news) have slowly turned into a recurring joke.

During NYCC 2023, we learned that Blumhouse founder and CEO Jason Blum (one of the busiest and most successful people in the industry right now) wanted to make this film unmistakably Blumhouse™ (and hopefully a great film) . As far as we know, screenwriters Scott Silver (Joker), Malcolm Spellman (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Matthew Mixon were hired to rewrite the script in late 2022 , now McFarlane tells ComicBook.com that a new draft will be ready for him “this month.”
The full quote makes him sound a little desperate, really tired of waiting: “Obviously, Jason Blum is one of the best at getting things done. They told me I could read the script this month, so this email A reminder will be sent out this week and they promised me that. Some things will happen, some things will happen, I only know myself. Some things will happen because if I can’t figure it out in my heart, I will It’s out there to figure it out. I only know myself. But hopefully we can come to an agreement that involves all the parties that have been involved in this over the years.”
He also added (in what felt like a soft threat to all parties involved) that if this iteration of the project didn’t work out, he’d be willing to try his luck elsewhere and outside the traditional Hollywood studio system: “So I’m trying to look Let’s see if we can make the right deals within the norms of the Hollywood structure. If not, there were a lot of examples last year, actually, there were a couple big examples last year, where people went outside the normal channels and were successful.” Honestly, As much as we’re tired of hearing about the poor development of this movie, we can’t blame him.
As of now, the tentative Spawn reboot must also find a director, though at this point, we wouldn’t be surprised if MacFarlane decides to come on board and serve as Captain himself, as some past rumors have suggested . However, the program does have one star, Jamie Foxx, who surprisingly has stayed in the spotlight since being recruited in 2018.
