Last year, the corona pandemic had already ensured that the big Japanese trade fair Tokyo Game Show could not go on as planned. Unfortunately, this year’s edition now suffers the same fate.
It has now been announced that the Tokyo Game Show 2021 – probably the most important Asian game fair of the year – cannot be held in the regular form, but exclusively as an online event. The period from September 30th to October 3rd, 2021 was chosen as the date.
When the TGS 2020 had to be canceled due to Corona last year, the organizers announced hopefully that they would return to the usual format on site in 2021. Like so many, however, they did not expect the persistence of COVID-19. Because of the pandemic, the TGS 2021 will also be held exclusively online.
Last year’s edition was far from a major fiasco, because 31.6 million people interested in TGS 2020 online turned on. The TGS 2021 Online should now build on this success.
The motto of the new edition is “We’ll always have games”. After all, video games have since helped many corona sufferers well through time. At the same time this year marks the 25th edition of the big event, so that one or the other specialty can certainly be expected.
After all: While the fair itself takes place online, there should be at least a very small area on site for the press to take part in interviews with developers.
