The Tokyo Game Show 2021 has been confirmed to be an online-only event this year.
Tokyo Game Show 2021 Will Be An Online Event
Tokyo Game Show 2021 had previously been announced to be taking place at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan this year but now has been to be confirmed as an online-only event by the organiser Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association and co-organiser Nikkei BP and Dentsu. The Toky Game Show 2021 will run from September 30th to October 3rd.
The theme for this year’s TGS 2021 will be “We’ll always have games.” The event will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of the very first Tokyo Game Show which was started in 1996.
This will be the second TGS event to be online-only, the first being last year in 2020. This year there will further evolve last year’s event, providing business matching between exhibitors and attendees to help arrange meetings online. As well as the organiser will use eCommerce and share playable demos.
All TGS presentations will be broadcast online with English translations. There are also plans to allow customers to play special demo versions of the games featured at the show. There will still be a physical venue for members of the press and influencers to get a hands-on experience with news titles and conduct interviews with developers. For the general public there will be an online tour so they can experience a simulation of the venue.
Viewers will be able to watch official programs which will be distributed by organizers and exhibitors via YouTube, Twitter, Niconico, Twitch, Facebook, Douyin, Douyu, Bilibili, and other leading live stream platforms in Japan and overseas.
As for what we’ll see this year is also still a bit of a mystery. There will be the usual big industry goers hopefully such as Bandai Namco, Capcom, Nintendo and more. Will we be seeing more Elden Ring? Or will there be reveals earlier in the year? Elden Ring rumours have been circulating online for quite some time ever since its reveal at E3 2019.
Tokyo Game Show 2021 Online will run from September 30th to October 3rd.
