Blade Runner 2099 is shaping up to be Amazon’s next big sci-fi hit on TV, and it already has an intriguing cast, but it could get even better with the addition of Tom Burke (Furiosa) and Maurizio Lombardi (Ripley) to the ongoing filming.

Deadline shared the news, saying that no details have yet been revealed about which characters the actors will play. But that doesn’t stop Hideo Kojima from being excited about the show.

Unsurprisingly, the legendary video game creator keeps reminding us of his love for Blade Runner, and also stated that he’s ready for Blade Runner 2099 because he’s not the kind of fan who thinks the next installment in the famous franchise will suck. Now Hunter Schafer is leading the team (alongside Michelle Yeoh), while Burke is locked in a minor role? He probably won’t shut up when the film finally hits Prime Video.

Anyone who has been active on X/Twitter or IG in the past year or so knows that Hideo Kojima is obsessed with up and coming actors. Usually, a Zoom/Skype call ensues, and then legend has it that everyone he crosses his eye will be scanned to appear in future games. It’s become a running joke now. Hunter Schafer seems to be one of his new muses, and the only thing that’s had him tweeting so much lately is the release of Furiosa.

Of course, we all knew he and George Miller had been good friends for a while, but what was even more striking was that he spent a lot of time raving about Tom Burke (Praetorian Jack) and Charli Fraser (Mary Jabassa) in that movie. In fact, he’d likely already seen the latter. And honestly, that’s a good thing for him. It was so funny and cute to see his deepest obsessions play out in real time on social media.

I’m now ready to see him tweet like crazy once the marketing for Blade Runner 2099 is announced, but the bigger question is: how long will it take for him to include Burke in his upcoming game?

Silka Luisa is the producer of Blade Runner 2099 and serves as executive producer together with Ridley Scott. The series has started shooting in Prague and will later move to Barcelona. We have not yet received a possible release date, but it is very likely to land on Prime Video at the end of 2025.
