Ubisoft brings its longest running, most successful real-time service game to the next generation of consoles.
As if in doubt, Ubisoft has revealed its commitment Rainbow Six: Siege When the next-generation console is introduced this holiday season, it can be added to the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Game director Leroy Athanassof couldn't provide a date for obvious reasons, but he said developers don't want to split the community.
"All I can tell you is that we will be launching from the launch (console). When they launch the console; but it is up to them to agree. For Siege, our goal is to be available at startup." He told Windows Central.
Athanassof also confirmed that the next generation of owners will be able to use existing player libraries in the same console series. It's unclear whether Athanassof refers only to a forward-compatible version of Siege or a brand new SKU.
As for cross-play between PlayStation and Xbox One, Athanassof suggests that it will only be a matter of time before the feature arrives. "We want to be able to play a full crossover game-letting Xbox players dock with PlayStation players," he said.
"We are ready to support this. Hope this will happen because, as I said, this is a general trend in the industry and nothing can stop this from happening. It's just a matter of time."
Developers also want to support cross-platform development, but again, this is a policy issue rather than a technical issue. The latest pair of siege operators arrived today at the test server as part of Void Edge operations.
