Tom Hanks looks downright terrifying in ‘Here,’ a film that spans centuries without the camera moving once

herea strange new film directed by Forrest Gump Starring Tom Hanks, has released its first trailer and it looks… static.

I’m sure you’ve noticed by now that a fairly common thing in most films is that they usually feature a lot of different camera angles. Some might stay on one particular shot for a while, they might move around, there might be a lot of cuts, or it might just be a single take. But generally speaking, the camera moves. However, Robert Zemeckis’ upcoming film Here is something completely different, as in its first trailer (which you can check out below), you can see that the entire film will be shot from a single camera angle. Yes, it’s a rather odd choice, but it’s based on Richard McGuire’s graphic novel of the same name, which does the exact same thing, so Zemeckis isn’t straying too far from the source material.

The film stars Hanks, a longtime collaborator of Zemeckis, and Robin Wright, both of whom previously worked together on the aforementioned Forrest Gump. From what you can tell from the trailer, the story spans across centuries, all the way back to when dinosaurs walked the Earth, until we meet protagonists Richard and Margaret (played by Hanks and Wright, respectively), and throughout their lives. You can also tell from the trailer that Hanks and Wright have undergone anti-aging technology, and yes, it looks as creepy as ever.

Apparently this particular anti-aging technology is AI-based, but it’s not clear if it’s completely replacing anyone’s job yet – just worth noting. Some AI techniques are useful in visual effects, doing what would otherwise take hours of tiresome work, so hopefully this is a helpful tool rather than anything that justifies paying people less.

You can’t tell that this project doesn’t at least look bold, but we’ll have to wait until November 15 (the film’s release date) to see if it pays off.
