Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater… oh, that title brings back fond memories. The series is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and it seems as though a surprise is in the offing.
The games in the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series have long been legendary, and after the release of the first remake compilation with parts 1 and 2, there was some hope that parts 3 and 4 would also be revamped. However, the transformation of developer Vicarious Visions into Blizzard Albany meant that nothing came of it.
Activision had been looking for another studio to implement games 3 and 4, but was unable to find a developer whose ideas suited the publisher.
Is there new hope now? No one knows, but at least something is afoot. Tony Hawk himself told Mythical Kitchen that something is planned for the 25th anniversary and that Hawk is in talks with Activision.
“I wish I could tell you more, but I can tell you that I’ve spoken to Activision again and we’re working on something,” Hawk said. “It’s going to be something that fans will really appreciate.”
What exactly is being worked on is currently anyone’s guess. Perhaps it will just be an anniversary promotion, perhaps the second remake package will be released after all. Let’s wait and see.
The venerable series was created in 1999 with the first title Tony Hawk’s Skateboarding, followed by further parts and spin-offs in the following years. In 2020, the remake compilation Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 was released as the last sign of life so far.
