… Which is anything but profitable
In fact, in an interview with the Journal du Dimanche, David Fincher revealed what we didn’t want to hear: There will be no sequel to Mindhunter.
I’m very proud of the first two seasons. But it’s a particularly expensive show, and in Netflix’s eyes, we haven’t attracted a large enough audience to justify such an investment. I don’t blame them, they took risks to start the series, gave me the tools to do what I dreamed for Mank and allowed me to break new ground with The Killer. It’s a chance to work with brave people. The day our desires won’t be the same, we must be honest about breaking up. David Fincher, Director
The director and producer states that Netflix has decided there will be no sequel due to the “particularly expensive” aspect of the show and the fact that viewers are not necessarily in attendance. What that means is that The series just isn’t profitable enough.
If David Fincher is obviously sad to be ending the program, he says he’s still proud to have carried through those two seasons of Mindhunter and the partnership he formed with Netflix. And while the agreement between the two parties still stands at the moment, the director simultaneously expresses that he would be willing to step back a bit if intentions diverged in the future.
