Treyarch may have found a way to welcome new players to Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Zombies without ruining Call of Duty’s infamous Easter egg hunt

Thanks to a slew of new intel leaks, we now know a lot more about Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies than we expected this year. The co-op mode appears to be a radical overhaul of many of the underlying systems, but it also retains some of the classic features.

Easter egg hunts, essentially hidden quests that players have to figure out how to complete on their own, have been a staple in zombie games for years, but their obscure nature has kept them out of reach for most casual gamers.

While past Zombies games have tried different ideas to try and bring new players into this part of the game with varying degrees of success, Black Ops 6 may have a solution that has the best of both worlds.

Easter eggs will apparently return in the Zombies mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. There will also be a guided mode designed for new players, but the biggest change is that the guided mode for each map will not be available at the launch of the game, but will be introduced later in the season.

This means that it’s not clear to everyone how to find the solutions to these quests, which allows the community to work together to find discoveries of both main quests and side quests.

Guided mode is fun in its own right, offering a “focused guide” through the main quest, with turns limited to specific stages to ease progression. Side quests and Easter eggs are disabled in Guided mode, though, making it the best way to experience the story.

As always, you’ll receive themed rewards for completing the main map missions, and additional rewards for completing missions outside of the introductory mode. You’ll also receive a limited-time business card for completing missions before the introductory mode starts.

In addition to these additions and all the new quality-of-life features we covered previously, Black Ops 6 Zombies brings back a lot of familiar mechanics and in-turn systems. The Pack-a-Punch, Mystery Box, and various Coke Reward Machines are all back – and so are the GobbleGums.

It also retains several mechanics introduced in Black Ops Cold War’s Zombies mode, such as Essence and Salvage being the two main currencies, the ability to evacuate and receive rewards when things become unbearable, crafting tables, and more.

At launch, Zombies will include two turn-based maps. As revealed in the narrative trailer, the first map takes place on the island of Terminus, while the other is set in a small town in West Virginia called Liberty Falls. While this week’s blog post focuses entirely on Terminus, we’ll have to wait until Call of Duty: Next later this month to find out what Liberty Falls is like.

Sadly, Zombies won’t be in the upcoming Black Ops 6 beta, but it won’t be long before launch. The full game will be released on October 25 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
