To curb our impatience to play the highly anticipated Elden Ring DLC, a Dark Souls 3 mod that looks like a full game is now playable via a free demo!
This mod called Dark Souls: Archthrones, developed by the group of the same name, obviously has no reason to be ashamed of a complete game developed by FromSoftware. It presents everything that makes the Japanese studio’s cult saga special and even adds completely new features! So it’s up to you to try it out if you’re missing Souls-like.
A new unofficial and very ambitious DLC for Dark Souls 3
The Archthrones modding team has been working on this extremely ambitious project for some time in connection with the PC version of Dark Souls 3. Released in 2016, the title still holds a prestigious place in the genre initiated by FromSoftware. Only Elden Ring was completely dethroned. However, this excellent third work continues to fascinate gamers, but also modders.
The proof is Dark Souls: Archthrones, a so-called “overhaul” mod of the original game. But calling it a mere “improvement” is an understatement. With five gigantic areas, almost twenty original bosses, fully voiced NPCs, rich lore quests and new mechanics, it is in reality a true expansion or even a whole new game. A fan-made game that is definitely incredibly promising, which it is now playable via a free demo (only on PC of course)! This can be downloaded from the corresponding page Nexus mods dedicated.
A good way to wait for the Elden Ring DLC
To enjoy Dark Souls: Archthrones, you need to follow some steps and requirements. First, you need a new version of a full edition of Dark Souls 3, including the two expansions. From then on, you can download the mod demo and copy the contents of the ZIP file to the base game’s “Game” folder. Then all you have to do is set your preferred language in the game’s Steam properties. Once all this is done, you can enjoy this mod, which was obviously created with a lot of love and passion.
In any case, this is an excellent way to wait for the long-awaited Elden Ring DLC. If you tried it and appreciated the tremendous work that went into it, don’t hesitate to give the mod a thumbs up and recommend it. It’s not every day that we see mods of this scale and quality. It is therefore the least we can do to appreciate the admirable initiative of its creators!
