Twitch has taken a beating lately, from unwelcome innovations to competitor Kick poaching well-known streamers. Now, as part of the TwitchCon in Paris, a number of quite sensible innovations have been announced.
Twitch is not having an easy time at the moment. A number of policy changes over the past few months have not been well received by viewers and streamers and have led to churn. In addition, competitor Kick.com is currently throwing money around to poach prominent streamers, such as recently xQc (for allegedly 100 million US dollars) and Amouranth.
However, the current situation seems to have at least motivated Twitch to give the platform a number of new features and to expand some of the existing ones. There were at least a few announcements during the keynote at TwitchCon 2023 in Paris.
The Clip Editor will be able to export clips directly to Tiktok, and the Clip Editor will soon also be available on mobile devices. The new Discovery Feed, planned for fall, will be a scrollable feed on the Twitch app that will show users a personalized mix of clips. Once this feed is rolled out, Twitch viewers will be able to discover clips from a variety of streamers’ channels, live or not. Appropriately, from August it should be possible to mark your own clips as “Featured” so that they are prioritized in the Discovery Feed, among other things.
Twitch is also introducing a story format that we already know from other social media platforms. In it you can share clips, text, images and more, giving you the choice to reach just your followers or your subscribers, giving you the opportunity to post stories exclusive to your subscribers. The whole thing is scheduled to start in October and will be continuously expanded.
In addition, the guest star feature is to be expanded, moderators will have more options and there are new control options for commercial breaks. You can check out the full announcements at Blog by Twitch read through.
