XDefiant is out, and it’s a ton of fun! It feels like some of the classic arcade shooters I played as a kid. Speedrunning through games like Modern Warfare 2 – it’s exactly what every old man has been craving for the past decade. But with every good thing comes a bad, and a wave of cheaters have set their sights on Ubisoft’s latest release.
Now it’s important to note that, like every game that suffers from cheating, this doesn’t affect every game, or even most games. In its current form, this seems to be a niche issue, but it’s still frustrating. If you want a prime example of what this looks like, you can see it in action on the XDefiant subreddit. This is a classic spread of wall hacks and aimbots working together, Hall and Oates’ FPS cheat.
So what can players do? Nothing! Nothing. XDefiant uses BattleEye anti-cheat software, a common service in games like Rainbow Six: Siege and Escape from Tarkov. If you know anything about these two games, you know that cheating is a big problem in both games. Tarkov is notorious for its cheating problems, and the constant ban announcements in Siege are a constant reminder of how many losers use this illegal software.
There’s a good chance that XDefiant will find itself in a similar situation. This is a free FPS game, so banned players can simply create a new account and start playing again. However, if you come across a player engaging in this type of competitive stupidity, you should still report them. As a lower proletarian member of the KDA, you have a responsibility to do your part and report any suspicious individuals. Especially the ones who clean the entire hall.
For those who are hoping to use XDefiant long-term, this may be a problem that you just have to live with. Just like the good old days! Does your dad complain when a cheater ruins his game of Counter-Strike: Source? No – he gets up from his computer, spends five minutes with you, and then goes back to his drudgery. Cheaters are here now, and they’re probably here to stay.
Cheaters aside, how do you find XDefiant? Do you like it? Like I wrote at the top, I had a great time with the game – and in my brief play session, I was thrilled. Let us know what you think below.
