Xbox is closing several of its studios while cleaning out its game catalog, and that hurts. For the players (actually for everyone) it is a scandal.
It’s hard to miss the sad news, as just yesterday (at the time of writing) the Xbox branch announced the closure of no fewer than four studios. A massacre that seemed like a bomb. The company defends itself by talking about difficult decisions, restructuring and concentrating forces, but nothing works. By closing four studios, including two particularly popular ones, Arkane Austin and Tango Gameswork, Xbox has shot itself in the foot on every level. And with that, the company has thrown two games in the trash, which will be shut down prematurely, a disaster.
Xbox is releasing two games, including a very big exclusive
Two titles are still played by some fans. The first is none other than Redfall, a major cartridge from 2023 that received a mixed response. Redfall was developed by Arkane Austin and should receive many more updates. One of them was planned for this May, with more expected to add heroes and lots of content by the end of the year. But that won’t be the case.
Monitoring of the game will simply stop, but the servers will remain active for the time being. Redfall is still executed and left to the few remaining fans. And those who paid a lot more for the Ultimate Edition and were hoping for a return on investment (because that’s what it ultimately is) will just have eyes to cry. Xbox has launched a refund campaign, but that’s it, there will be nothing.
A second popular game has to stop everything
Second game shot down mid-flight, Mighty downfalla mobile game in the style ofArchero. Mighty DOOM is a roguelite game in which you have to survive numerous dungeons full of monsters by gradually improving your skills as a hunter. The game had some success and continued to run and bring people joy, but not visible enough as the game is now condemned. Starting in early August, it will permanently close its doors and shut down its servers. It’s over.
No doubt many plans will be disrupted by the closure of all these studios. It is not yet known how many people will be affected by the layoffs. Nor how many will be redistributed to other structures in the Xbox industry. But whatever it is, it’s a page that turns. And like every time we have news like this, it hurts.
