At E3 2021 there was already a lot of new information about Age of Empires 4. The last two factions and two new campaigns were revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase Extended. The announcement was rounded off with new gameplay for the strategy game.
Two new races and campaigns announced
In a seven-minute presentation, Creative Director Adam Isgreen and Director of Customer Voice Emma Bridle from World’s Edge introduced two new civilizations. The Holy Roman Empire and the Rus become part of Age of Empires 4.
With the Holy Roman Empire, there will actually also be a Europe people in the broadest sense in Age of Empires 4. On the other hand, relatively little is known about the Rus. Some historians assume that the Rus come from Scandinavia and are therefore Vikings. But there were probably also Slavic influences. Most likely, the Rus in Age 2 will reflect the Russian principalities of the Middle Ages, as Moscow plays a huge role in their campaign.
The two peoples will probably also take their place in the new campaign, which does a lot differently than before. In his opinion, Fabiano explains why he thinks the documentary style is right:

At the same time the secret was also around the last two campaigns released before the launch: “Rise of Moscow” and “Mongol Empire” join the already known campaigns.
There was no more information about the two peoples and the campaigns during the showcase. However, Emma Bridle revealed that there will be more details about the two before the release on October 28, 2021. Already at E3 there was a veritable flood of information on peoples, the campaign and system requirements.
New gameplay features buffs and sea battles
During the presentation was new gameplay shown. Among other things, it explains how camels can grant buffs and upgrades to other units. The new naval battles were also shown, which, according to the developers, have been expanded after feedback from the community. There will also be a mini-documentary that will bring players closer to the history of the 100 Years War and other historical events.
