In Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator, players could only go on tour together in multiplayer using an unofficial mod. The developers of SCS Software are now announcing an independent multiplayer for the truck simulations. The first open beta is already running. Here you can find out how you can participate and what makes multiplayer so special.
Official multiplayer for ETS 2 and ATS
In the community there was always the desire for a multiplayer for both titles. Thanks to an unofficial mod, the interaction was also possible, but with a few drawbacks. The servers were often overloaded and there is still no AI traffic. Even players who did not obey the traffic rules and could only be reported via detours spoiled the fun of the multiplayer mod.
This is what the official multiplayer promises: Developer SCS Software has it all in one Forum post now announced a convoy function for eight players in multiplayer. In this it is possible for you to drive the same cargo to its destination. This eliminates the need for a long search for the right freight and the same destination. According to the developers, the multiplayer is still in an early phase.
But there are already some features that make you want to play in the multiplayer mode. This is what awaits you with the Experimental Beta 1.41 Update:
- Each player can open a private session for up to 8 players
- Possibility to synchronize orders and jobs
- Synchronized AI traffic
- Time and weather synchronized
- Vehicle paintwork, truck and cabin accessories are synchronized
- In-game communication via CB radio, quick replies or text chat

At the moment the open beta for the multiplayer is only running for the American Truck Simulator. After a successful test, it is only a matter of time before the Euro Truck Simulator 2 also receives the convoy function and the associated multiplayer.
How to activate the beta access for ATS on Steam:
- Find the American Truck Simulator in your Steam library and select it
- Right click on “Properties”
- In the new window you choose »Betas«

Limitations and known issues in beta
The open beta has some limitations. At the moment, as I said, you can only test the new multiplayer in the American Truck Simulator. Also, mods are not supported and players can only join if they have the cargo and map DLCs like the host installed.
Another restriction are special transports, these are not possible in the beta. If you have such a job in single player, you cannot join a multiplayer session. It is currently not known whether it will be possible to carry out special transports in the future.
It would be easy to imagine that in the future more than eight players could go on tour together in a convoy and that mods would be supported. We will keep you up to date.
