Free game of the month
In role-playing games, as the name suggests, you slip into a role – but what it looks like is usually relatively rigid. Not so in Obsidian's Tyranny: You have a lot of freedom when it comes to character creation. Sword wielding magician? Singing gladiator? There are (almost) no limits to the expansion of your character. The story does a lot differently than other genre representatives: As a so-called fate binder you are in the service of the godlike ruler Cyrus who has conquered most of the world. You are sent to put down a rebellion and rightly ask yourself: Are we the bad guys?
Endless freedom of choice
How you silence the insurgents is up to you. For example, you decide which of the two armies that were used against the rebels will be equipped with newly forged swords. However, your approach also has consequences: every decision influences the story. In the test, three editors experienced three very different games. The numerous dialogues are fantastically written – reading is easy.
Classic fights
You control your group from up to four heroes from the classic iso perspective. The tactical battles run in real time and can be paused at any time. In addition to your normal abilities and spells, some of which you can create yourself, there are combo attacks. You can only use these powerful skills once per fight. Tyranny builds on the strengths of his spiritual predecessor, Pillars of Eternity, and develops them sensibly. GameStar gave it a rating of 88.
More of paradox
With Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny, Paradox has proven that they have a knack for good role-playing games. Accordingly, there is great hope that the beloved vampire adventurer Vampire: The Masquerade 2 – Bloodlines will continue.
