It has now been a year and a half since Ubisoft tried to put out the fire that resulted from the Liberation newspaper’s investigation, which testifies to a toxic culture practiced internally by some senior executives. A new testimony today brings a different view of the French giant’s sincerity.
After a catastrophic investigation into the company’s image Ubisoft announced its desire to do better, and proceed with some tentative layoffs. But also through the implementation of new hires in the various stressed departments, starting with so-called human resources. But just weeks after these promises of good faith, new sources came along testifying to a desire to communicate about the changes made rather than actually implement them. Today’s story by a former Ubisoft employee confirms that version of the facts.
Sad repetition
The one from which our colleagues Kotaku have chosen to name “Valérie” in order to protect their anonymity, quotes several racist statements
Not only were they late for the appointment, they didn’t actually comply with my request.
“Valérie” then claims to have been refused professional training by a manager who only complimented her privately and openly criticized her in front of her colleagues. After a halt because of depression, she takes the cabinet again and only accepts a call in which she explains that there would be no continuation. She eventually identified CEO Yves Guillemot and new Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion, Raashi Sikka, but received no response despite multiple interviews.
At the beginning of the year, Valérie finally decides to leave Ubisoft:
I would have loved to continue my career at Ubisoft, but I was really affected by this harassment, this discrimination and this toxicity. I hope things get better for Ubisoft, but it’s not yet.
This testimony will not fail to appear recent claims the Video Game Workers Union, which recently estimated that the publisher’s management “never had the will to do more than just communicate and” save face. “
Contacted by Kotaku, the French did not want to speak on the matter for the time being.
