In the daily menu of July 24, 2023, Ubisoft decides to close Ubisoft Connect accounts! The Daily, let’s go!
There are more and more dematerialized video game platforms. Despite the ubiquity of Steam, there is also the Epic Game Store, Origin the Electronic Arts launcher, Battle.net the Blizzard or even the one that interests us: Ubisoft Connect. A few days ago, a Twitter user shared an email they received from Ubisoft that if they didn’t take action within thirty days of the email, their account would be automatically and permanently closed. Ubisoft Support responded to this tweet by explaining that it was not about losing access to games or user accounts, it was about privacy. The tweet drew huge reactions as they are the only ones demanding reconnection under threat of account suspension. In addition, the 30 days required to “challenge” this decision is a relatively short period of time. Ubisoft only adheres to the GDPR as far as data protection is concerned, but it protects users’ data at the expense of ownership of the digital content they buy and something questionable. The daily is over!
