hyperspaceUbisoft’s free-to-play battle royale game will go offline this spring.
News of the sunset announced overnight that servers would be shutting down on April 28.
Posted on August 11, 2020, no reason provided for closing the game. Ubisoft only said it was a “difficult decision to end development” and “apply key learnings from this game to future products.”
Set in the distant future of 2054, the urban futuristic game pits 100 competitors against each other in close-range and fast-paced FPS competition. It features various areas of the virtual city New Arcadia with ample verticality.
During races, you’ll jump from streets to rooftops and use hacks that “twist the rules to your advantage”.
Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the game also features deep Twitch integration. Here, viewers can influence the streamer’s game by increasing the tempo, spawning healing items, and more.
Since Ubisoft didn’t say why it shut down the game after just three seasons, one can only assume it didn’t perform as well as expected. Anyway, that’s usually the reason. But we can only speculate. That being said, in his preview of the game, Jim Rossinho said that while the game was good, “something was missing” and he didn’t “believe it’s going to be a cocktail on a balcony in a few years.” Sadly, His prediction was correct.
