Ubisoft is suspending ‘inactive’ accounts, removing access to add-on games

if you have a Ubisoft If you have some games attached to your account, you may need to log in before all games are deleted.

In a new move, which I’m sure Ubisoft is all too familiar with (“Why are you like this?”), it turns out that your Ubisoft account can be closed if it’s been inactive for an extended period of time. Earlier this week, Twitter user PC_enjoyer shared a screenshot of a Ubisoft support email that allegedly told users their Ubisoft accounts had been suspended due to “inactivity.” The email also warns that the account will be “permanently closed within 30 days,” which is clearly more of a concern than simply suspending your account.

If you’re wondering if this is just someone attacking Ubisoft, the official Ubisoft support Twitter account did respond to the original tweet explain“We just want to remind you that you can avoid account closure by logging into your account within 30 days (from receiving the email pictured) and selecting the cancel account closure link included in the email. We certainly don’t want you to lose access to your game or account, so if you experience any difficulties logging in, please open a support case with us.”

A report from a few years ago also found that a player with a Ubisoft account that came with the game was also shut down, though the company claims it would not do so in such cases. Ubisoft apparently claimed it would shut down accounts to comply with Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation, but why it threatened to shut down an account this time that could be linked to the game again is unclear.

There’s also no official word on how long your account needs to be inactive before Ubisoft decides to delete it, so even if you haven’t logged in in a while, it might be worth doing it just to retain access to games you might have purchased.
