For a few months now, the big names in video games have been commenting on the new NFT item technology. Still in the most questionable settings, Frenchman Ubisoft decided to shoot first.
So it’s official: Ubisoft is entering the race with shallot to the NFTs, those famous “non-fungible tokens” by opening the portal’s doors today Ubisoft quartz. It is the Ghost Recon Breakpoint soldier who wipes the patches of this juicy tech for those who trade it:
First warning shot
The portal dedicated to the “Digits” – the NFTs according to Ubisoft – therefore uses communication treasures to help this technology achieve a breakthrough for gamers:
Ubisoft Quartz is a new experience for our players, based on our desire to create a deeper and deeper connection between you and the game worlds you love. It aims to give you more autonomy and power over in-game items that will help you create your own story.
Ubisoft Quartz is designed for gamers, and gamers only.
Because of this, we will ensure that everyone who wants to purchase Digits is a committed player in the Ubisoft ecosystem.
For the time being, only three NFT items are listed on Ubisoft Quartz: a weapon, a helmet and a pair of pants, which are reserved for the PC version of Ghost Recon Breakpoint, which will be unlocked on December 9th, 12th and 15th at 7pm .
The other quarter of an hour of celebrity
The French are trying to guarantee their goodwill by stating that the items offered in the form of NFT will be flanked by a unique serial number attached to a player profile and the story of “securing fame for years to come” ( we don’t invent anything). Ubisoft assures players concerned about the state of the planet they live on that item creation will be done via the Tezos blockchain system, which uses less energy than some of its competitors.
The resale of NFT objects takes place outside of the Ubisoft ecosystem, as only exchange platforms rarible.com and objkt.com are currently quoted. You still have to be 18, that goes without saying. Players who register for this process will therefore see their name associated with a cosmetic item even in the event of a resale.
The first objects revealed testify to the desire to keep players in a proprietary ecosystem, as, for example, the Wolf Enhanced helmet must have played the last Ghost Recon for 600 hours to be unlocked. Did you say … “trapped”?
One thing is for sure, this test run will require many more as the Ubisoft Quartz site has already confirmed it:
That’s just the beginning…
