Ubisoft is reorganizing its editorial team to distinguish one game from another.
According to an exclusive report from VGC, Ubisoft The editorial team is being reorganized, which is basically an advisory board dealing with upcoming games (thanks to GI.biz).
The article states that Chief Creative Officer Serge Hascoet will continue to serve as the editorial team leader; however, he will get a larger team to advise the company's game portfolio to ensure game diversity.
The company believes that customers don't think there is enough difference to distinguish one game from another. It is believed that the expanded editorial team will compete with it, allowing Hascoet to have a larger team to work with. These teams will not only be a few franchise vice presidents, they will also expand to seven. Everyone will be assigned a franchise and given them more autonomy so that they can make independent decisions based on the direction of the game they lead.
A source with VGC said that many of Ubisoft's games "feel the same" because there are only one or two people in the game.
The new report, released in November, said Ubisoft is changing the approval process to find more unique games and move away from homogeneity.
Part of the reason is poor sales and reviews of Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Company CEO Yves Guillemot said the game's predecessor, Ghost Recon Wildlands, did not have enough "differentiation factors". Sales in the second sector were also lower than the company expected.
Another reason for the poor performance of these two games is that it is difficult to arouse people's interest in sequels to multiplayer games, especially when "prioritized iterations" benefit from years of optimization. Ubisoft said that in the future it will ensure that more time is allocated between iterations of its live games.
