Another big name appears to be preparing to join mortal kombat 2this time Tati Gabrielle will reportedly play Jade.
This comes from The Hollywood Reporter, who says Gabriel is currently in “final talks” to join the cast of the 2021 Mortal Kombat sequel. She’s apparently signed on to play Jed, an assassin and friend of Kitana’s who didn’t appear in the first film. Interestingly, Jade joins the series in the second Mortal Kombat game, along with Kitana, so it’s possible the latter could make her debut in the sequel movie as well.
Gabriel may be best known for Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, but she’s also appeared in The House of Owls, You and last year’s Uncharted film adaptation, her second video game adaptation . She’s not the only newcomer to the Mortal Kombat movie, as it was reported earlier this month that Dredd and The Boys actor Karl Urban will join Mortal Kombat 2 as the iconic Johnny Cage.
Cage was actually teased in the end credits scene at the end of Mortal Kombat, and since every blockbuster movie has to have one these days, news of the character’s casting isn’t particularly surprising.
Apparently, Simon McQuoid, who also helmed the 2021 film, will be in charge of directing the sequel. Jeremy Slate (Moon Knight, The Umbrella Academy) wrote the script, and the film is produced by Atomic Monster’s James Wan, Broken Road Productions’ Todd Garner, Simon McQuoid and E. Bennett Walsh.
Right now, Mortal Kombat doesn’t have a specific release date or even a release window, so who knows when we’ll see both moves. But it’s clear that casting is a work in progress, things are still in the early stages, and the current writers’ strike is likely affecting development, so don’t expect it to be imminent.
Netherrealm Studios also recently revealed that it’s rebooting the game with the just-announced Mortal Kombat 1 (yes, it’s called that on purpose).
