Game News “Uncharted is a wonderful game,” the makers of this Star Wars video game appreciate being compared “with the best.”
“Uncharted is a wonderful game,” say the makers of Star Wars Outlaws, and they feel honored to be compared to this outstanding license.
The Uncharted video game series, developed by Naughty Dog, set high standards for the action-adventure genre. Thanks to its impressive graphics, simple and effective gameplay and (very) lovable characters, it attracted a large audience and received rave reviews. Even today, the franchise is considered the pinnacle of “Indiana Jones in video games.”. That reputation has led to flattering comparisons with other titles, including Star Wars Outlaws, the new open-world game from Ubisoft Massive. For Julian Gerighty, the creative director of Star Wars Outlaws, that comparison is an honor. In his opinion, the comparison with such an acclaimed game as Uncharted confirms the quality of the next title in the Star Wars universe.
The ultimate Star Wars game?
Developed by Ubisoft Massive, Star Wars Outlaws marks the first open-world game in the Star Wars series. Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, it explores a galaxy dominated by the Empire and where criminal syndicates thrive. Julian Gerighty revealed that this historical period was suggested by Lucasfilm Games, allowing the Massive team to explore rich and diverse themes. Their collaboration facilitated development by providing a solid creative framework, while also allowing the Massive team to draw on its world design expertise, as demonstrated in The Division and more recently in Avatar Frontiers of Pandora. However, it seems that the reality is somewhat different…
A voluntary inspiration?
More Julian Gerighty explains that Uncharted is not the primary source of inspiration for Star Wars Outlaws. The vision of the creative director and his teams focuses on balancing a compelling story and a detailed open world, while incorporating iconic elements of the universe it is inspired by.
(Uncharted) wasn’t necessarily our reference point. It’s such a wonderful game to be compared to. If you’re going to be compared to someone, it might as well be the best in the business. Naughty Dog and what they do is absolutely brilliant
Star Wars Outlaws differs significantly from Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor due to its focus on exploration and gameplay approach. Unlike Respawn titles, where the player plays a Jedi wielding a lightsaber and using the Force, Outlaws places the emphasis on the use of the blaster and the shooting phases, reminiscent of the mechanics of third-person shooter games
