Gaming News Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection: Our video review of the PS5 version
With the film due for release eventually and Uncharted making its first PC debut, a collection that brings together Uncharted 4 and its stand-alone Legacy Of Thieves is making its way to PS5. As sublime as they were excellent upon their release, have the two titles brought together under the Legacy of Thieves Collection name held up to the weight of the years?
6 years have passed since the release of Uncharted 4. As a new marker initiated by Sony productions with The Last of Us, the adventure saga has undergone a more narrative mutation and attempted to infuse more humanity into its characters, which it has done brilliantly. However, the two games were previously limited to the PS4 and the PS5 only begged to welcome Nathan Drake and Chloé Frazer.
A massive performance boost?
Note that the price will not be the same depending on your situation. If you don’t own any of the games on PS4, Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection costs $49.99. On the other hand, if you have one of the two games on the PS4, the update to the PS5 costs $10. And for these prices, you get what you’d expect: a boost in performance. Fidelity mode allows you to play in native 4k at 30 frames per second. Switching to performance mode on the page shows 4k upscaled from 1440p resolution for a frame rate capped at 60 fps. Finally, if you have a 120Hz screen, you can enable Performance + mode to play in 1080p at 120fps. Unfortunately, Fidelity mode is a little more disappointing, offering a native 4K display of course but without the 60fps and its 30fps being inconsistent on certain occasions.
It would be crippling if performance mode didn’t work as well.. This keeps the 60 FPS without flinching with a sophisticated technique that proves to be effective. In this way you can enjoy the two games in very good conditions and appreciate their rhythm that hasn’t aged a bit. However, Uncharted 4 is showing some signs of age, be it in terms of the animations in general or the gameplay. God of War, Red Dead Redemption II or The Last of Us Part II set new standards on the PS4 and Uncharted was the beginning. Also, this installment lacks multiplayer, which is only really worth it if you’re a die-hard fan of the franchise and want to play it at 60 fps.
These two Uncharted are still very good games, fun, pretty pretty and ultra fast. The adventure is still very good in performance mode and if you’re an absolute fan of the franchise and you’re running for frames per if you want to experience these episodes for the first time, it’s not a bad idea to record them on PS5. Otherwise, the PS4 versions are still fully playable today.
