When Quantic Dream is involved, you usually expect an epic narrative experience. Just such a single-player adventure has now been announced at gamescom with Under the Waves.
However, it must be said in this context that Quantic Dream is not active as a developer in th is case, but rather as a publisher. Under the Waves is being developed by Parallel Studio, who want to launch their narrative single-player adventure for PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5 and PS4 in 2023.
What’s the matter? You dive into the depths of the North Sea for a moving and poetic underwater adventure about the limitless power of grief. Set in a techno-futuristic world of the 1970s, she follows Stan, a professional diver working for an oil company who faces the isolation of the deep sea. During his dive, deep beneath the waves, he witnesses a series of strange occurrences.
Enjoy a beautiful deep sea environment that focuses on exploring caves, wrecks and more. Ultimately, the underwater world is the key to guiding Stan deeper and deeper into the abyss through his unforeseen series of events. In the end, the protagonist has to make the decision to stay in the deep forever or break through the water surface again.
To support the realization of this deep-sea adventure, Quantic Dream gave the developers access to a wide range of talent and creative tools, including motion capture, voiceover, animation, quality assurance, localization and much more. This partnership marks the first time Quantic Dream has endorsed another French studio as both are based in Paris.
