Does anyone remember the Steath horror game Hello Neighbor? Searching the house of your insane looking neighbor to find his secret? Even back then, the guy didn't just put up with it. And now he suddenly jumps out from behind a corner – in the middle of his own cartoon series that became a hit overnight.
Hello Neighbor got off to a moderate start in 2017. The idea and atmosphere were great, but a stupid AI, annoying bugs and imprecise controls made our GameStar test on Hello Neighbor a sad rating of only 49 percent. In the meantime, many updates have ensured that the Steam reviews are "mostly positive", but Hello Neighbor has never been granted a real breakthrough – unlike the associated cartoon series.
Pilot episode with over 10 million viewers
The pilot episode »Breaking & Entering« went online on April 17th on Youtube. Less than a week later, almost 11 million viewers watched the episode. With over 32,000 positive reviews and many enthusiastic comments the pilot for Hello Neighbor is apparently very well received. The user »J The Wolf« writes:
"I've never really been a big Hello Neighbor fan, but I can't wait for the show!"
If the pilot receives enough support – which at the moment seems quite realistic – then Hello Neighbor will delight us as a series in the future. You can get an idea of the almost six-minute episode here:
The neighbor gets a name
The neighbor known from the game is named Mr. Peterson in the series. The main characters are a group of children, led by protagonist Nicky, who want to uncover his secret. The pilot episode shows the break-in into Mr. Peterson's house – so far well-known food from the game. However, fans speculate in the comments that the upcoming episodes reveal more about the character Mr. Peterson and his story
There is enough material for this because Hello Neighbor already received a four-part book adaptation in 2019. This was written by author Carly Ann West, who is now also responsible for the screenplay of the series.
Last year it was announced that Cuphead would also get its own cartoon series on Netflix. The stubborn and above all extraordinarily beautiful Jump 'n Run with its retro cartoon graphics offers the perfect template.
Like Hello Neighbor, the series does not yet have a release date. So if you are still looking for further series recommendations by then, we have put together a list of all new Netflix series in April 2020.
