Oh dear, even though the Until Dawn remake isn’t released until October, it looks like its developer, Ballistic Moon, has already started laying off staff.
While Ballistic Moon has yet to make an official statement (as reported on Resetera) and the exact number of layoffs has yet to be determined, several developers at the studio have shared the news of their layoffs on their personal LinkedIn accounts. “Like so many others in this wonderful but turbulent industry, I have sadly been made redundant,” wrote Cassy Cornish. Another developer, Harry Williams, shared: “After two years of working at Ballistic Moon on the fantastic Until Dawn 2024, I have unfortunately been made redundant as a Technical Designer. I have loved working with everyone at BM and look forward to crossing paths with members of the family on future projects!”

At the time of writing, no other team members appear to have been fired, but regardless, this clearly adds to the thousands of layoffs in the gaming industry over the past year. The studio was founded a few years ago and is partly led by former Supermassive Games developers, and the upcoming Until Dawn remake will be the first game from the studio. As of now, the game is set to release on October 4, but again, there’s no word on what impact the layoffs will have.
It’s not the only studio to suffer losses before its games hit theaters this week, with developer Ouka Studios planning to shut down just one day after Secret of Mana’s release, despite the game only launching on Thursday. Hopefully this isn’t a sign of more premature layoffs in the future.
