Update (18/09/24, 3:00pm BST): Arrowhead has now deployed a hotfix which fixes the shield generator pack, as well as a crash that could occur “during host migration when new players join”. The studio has urged players currently playing the game to restart it, presumably to ensure the update is applied immediately.

Helldivers 2’s patch 1.001.100 has been receiving a lot of love since its release, but that doesn’t mean its deployment has been completely problem-free, as a shield generator bug has appeared that has made players immune to melee attacks.

While some players don’t seem to mind Arrowhead leaving the issue alone, they’ve already started working on it, and Chief Creative Officer Johan Pilestedt took the opportunity to start teasing changes that might be coming to the game’s next big patch.

“We’re aware of a (rather embarrassing) bug with personal shield generators where they don’t take damage from melee attacks,” the developer, who recently discovered he has a thing for puns, wrote on Twitter. “We’re looking into fixing this ASAP.”

If you haven’t encountered it yet — and it doesn’t seem like everyone has — then this exploit is about as useful as it sounds for people who want an easy ride, letting you stand in the middle of an entire Terminid horde and let them pounce on you. You’re only in danger if something like a Bile Titan shows up to ruin the fun, or you’re accidentally knocked out by a teammate.

Of course, the perks it brings make this one of those bugs that people have cheekily asked Arrowhead not to rush to fix, but Pilestedt stuck to his guns, joking that it makes the game “probably a little too easy.” One player also asked him if he had “any plans to shorten the cooldown on jump packs,” to which he responded that the studio does plan to “think about jump packs in the next patch.” So, you see, this latest patch is only a day old, and we’re already getting a sneak peek at what’s to come.

Do you wish this shield generator glitch would last a little longer so you could kill hordes of Helldivers 2’s Terminids without having to endure half the stress you normally do? Let us know below!
