Update to iOS 17.4 delights Harry Potter fans: Apple is integrating a long-awaited emoji

On the evening of March 5th, Apple rolled out its latest iPhone update, iOS 17.4. This is a larger patch that not only fixes bugs, but also implements new functions and optimizations. Anyone who installs the iPhone update can also look forward to new emojis; fans of Harry Potter will finally get a phoenix.

There is also a big change for the family emojis. These no longer show people of different colors, but now only different combinations of white silhouettes on a gray background. Four different symbols are available here.

There are also small changes to the person emojis, which previously moved in the left direction. With the update there are additional symbols for the other direction. Furthermore, the well-known gender and skin tone types were also integrated.

Different display on older devices

On iPhones with an older operating system version, the new emoji may appear differently. For example, the phoenix appears there as a normal bird with an additional fire symbol, the lime as a lemon with a green square next to it.

Apple isn’t the only one introducing the six new emojis on its devices. You will soon be able to use Phoenix, lime, the brown mushroom, the broken chain or the shaking head emojis in the WhatsApp messenger.
