And again a surprise hit stirs up the Steam charts. The co-op survival title Valheim displaces even greats like GTA 5 or Rainbow Six: victories from the top 10.
Surprise hits are not strange these days, even if they are sometimes strange games – see Among Us or Fall Guys. Now a rather unexpected title has pushed its way into the top 10 on Steam and is now among the big players. It will be interesting to see whether it is just a flash in the pan or something bigger.
Valheim, which is currently settling at number 9 on the Steam charts, is a co-op survival game with crafting elements that is set in procedurally generated, open environments and has only just entered Early Access. Apparently a concept that is well received by gamers, because around 95 percent of Steam reviews are positive, and that’s not exactly a small amount.
In the game, you take on the role of dead Vikings who have to face off against mythical monsters in order to win Odin’s favor and reach the ultimate Viking paradise. Up to ten players can take part in such a round. You explore the world, build settlements and fortresses, fight each other with all sorts of monsters, make weapons and armor and try to survive in enemy Valheim.
The Viking co-op survival title Valheim has gone into Early Access on Steam.
