How to tame smoked salmon in Wallheim
Taming a fox is not much different from taming a wild boar or wolf.
First, stock up a lot of your favorite food-for Lox, this is barley, Huang Mei, with flax. Fortunately, these happen to be the three native plants in the area. Plain Biome, this is the only area where Lox can spawn.
Make sure that lox does not receive alerts about you (or the presence of other players or enemies) and throw some food at it.
Although foxes are large, and the creatures of the plains biome are usually a group of aggressive creatures, this is actually surprisingly easy. Lox has the worst eyesight and hearing of any creature in the game, so it is not difficult to sneak a person (whether it is to attack it or to provide it with friendship).
After the smoked salmon starts to eat, look for the yellow heart above its head, which shows that it has gradually adapted to your figure. If you are close enough to show its statistics on the screen, then you will also see a percentage-based trust meter. When the meter reaches 100% (requires multiple supplies), you have tamed the smoked salmon.
Build a Lox pen
Like a boar, you can make sure that the tame fox stays there by building a pen for it so you can keep an eye on it.
Due to lox’s impressive blunt weapon damage attack, it is recommended that you use stone instead of wood to build the lox pen. If they pay attention, they can hit the stone, but even the calm smoked salmon can damage its wooden shell.
Can you breed lox?
At the time of writing, the ability to breed lox in Wallheim has not yet been realized.
This means that you currently cannot grow them really effectively. You can feed them when you are hungry and protect them from the shelter, nothing more. They are neither regarded as farm animals like wild boars, nor as faithful companions like tamed wolves.
At this point, the only real advantage of tame lox is that it prevents them from attacking your buildings and even your ships. Given that the creature has the above-mentioned abilities, it cuts through wood like butter with a hot knife, and this alone can make them tame and nail them.
However, given that the game is still in early access, your tamed fox may play a bigger role at some point.
