Valheim: Mini-Cartoon gets you in the mood for the Mistlands expansion
On December 6th, 2022 Mistlands was released as a huge update for the survival game Valheim. The scope also includes a new type of opponent with an associated event. This new event is named They Sought You Out
and is currently receiving harsh criticism. Some players are even so frustrated that they stopped playing the game. Here you can find out what causes this and what you can do about it.
The Mistlands update also includes a lot of other content. You can find out more about this here:

What is the new event doing?
The new raid event ensures that your base is attacked by a horde of opponents. Among others, these opponents include the Seeker
which are giant flying insects. The raid event can occur at any time without warning. The only condition is that you have already defeated the boss opponent Yagluth.
What is the criticism of the event?
The criticism is that this event is considered unfair and far too difficult by the community. The Seekers can overcome ditches and destroy walls without any problems. They don’t stop at pets and cattle breeding either.
During the raid event you suddenly have to deal with a whole group of them. Furthermore, there is no advance notice to prepare for the Seeker invasion. With bad luck you are pottering around in your base and suddenly five Seekers appear in front of the door and destroy what you have been working on for a long time. This Reddit user, for example, had a similar experience, as they did in a Thread to discuss:
When we were ambushed we were surprised and lost our base which took hundreds of hours. It was protected by walls, moats and gates upgraded to the max that the Seekers couldn’t even slow down… After surviving the raid, we all left the game in anger. Looking at the aftermath, we realized there was no point in trying to rebuild in any way as seasonal item buffs were lost and we wouldn’t survive another raid.
How do the developers mean to create the Seeker Raids as a solo player? I’m in my base messing around when suddenly two Seekers, three Seeker Soldiers and some Seeker Broods spawn and march through my walls. How exactly do you envision players having to defeat six or more opponents at once without even a minute’s warning? Is this fun design? There aren’t even any viable base defense options to help me in the fight […]. I was forced to use console commands the first time the raid spawned. Thanks to the new update, I’m scared of raids now. The update is particularly problematic for decorative and single players, as they usually have a much worse defense. These people are at immediate risk of losing a large chunk of their game progress until the event is adjusted.

What can you do about it?
However, there are a few aspects that you can use to prepare now, in addition to classic defense, in order to survive the event as unscathed as possible:
Workbenches are your best friend
Enemies cannot spawn near workbenches. Therefore, it is possible to fill the entire area around your base with advertising benches, so that the enemies for the raid event cannot spawn. However, this does not look very attractive, which is why decorative players in particular will not enjoy this solution. In addition, future patches may make this no longer work at some point.
ups and downs
It is possible to dig extremely wide trenches, as well as build earth walls to stop the Seekers. However, this doesn’t look very nice either.
Console Commands
In any case, the last resort is to use console commands. These are basically cheat codes that have different effects. How you use them and what console commands there are, you go here. If you want to stop the raid event, you have to in your console stopevent
input. Alternatively, you can also use the code killall
use to defeat all nearby enemies.
