Valve hasn’t seen games that Steam Deck can’t handle

Valve has talked about adjusting the hardware of the Steam platform to manage the latest games.

But Steam Deck does not always have this level of performance. In a new interview with IGN, Valve revealed that it is particularly interested in understanding how the latest Steam version runs on the platform. After testing various prototypes, Valve came up with the current configuration, and the developers stated that they have not encountered any problems when running these games.

“For the past few years, we have been reviewing various games in the catalog, but the real test for us is the games launched last year. They just can’t really run well on the previous types of prototypes and architectures we are testing. ,” Valve developer Pierre-Loup Griffis revealed.

“This is the first time we have reached the level of performance required to run the latest generation of games without any problems. All the games we want to play-in fact, the entire Steam library. We haven’t really found one that can be thrown on this device. Things that it can’t handle.”

Griffis also explained that the trend towards higher frame rates and sharper resolutions is more helpful to Steam Deck because its relatively low resolution is only 800p and the frame rate target is 30fps, which allows games to be scaled down seamlessly.

“If people start to prefer image quality very much, then we might make some trade-offs, but we haven’t really seen this yet,” Griffith added.

It is worth remembering that games that cannot run on Proton may not run on Deck at all, unless of course you decide to only run Windows on it.

Steam Deck will begin shipping in December this year, with three configurations, starting at $400.
