Gaming News Valve’s next multi-shooter just leaked: Deadlock is closer to Overwatch and LoL than Counter-Strike
When Valve is known for Steam and Counter Strike, we often forget about the other games that made the company famous. Aside from Portal and Half-Life, it was also Team Fortress and DotA that contributed to its popularity. Deadlock, the studio’s next project, reminds us of this.
Valve: The makers of Counter Strike about another project
When we know that Valve is the platform that includes Steam, we often forget that the company is also a video game studio. She is the creator of market essentials such as Half-Life, Portal and Counter Strike. Defense of the Ancient, better known as DotA, is the ancestor of LoL. And it is also Team Fortress, an online co-op shooter that contributed to the studio’s fame. After relaunching the Counter-Strike machine with CS 2 at the end of 2023, Valve is once again turning its attention to the Overwatch-style “hero shooter” side.
In any case, we can believe this given the leaks we have seen recently. The first rumors point to a game called Deadlock, some images of which were posted by the content creator GabeFollower on Counter Strike. Pictures that give an impression of the artistic direction, but also of the game principle: Deadlock pits two teams of six players against each other, each with a character with unique powers. They then compete against each other in four different ways, which is reminiscent of the MOBA principle popularized by League of Legends.
Deadlock, a mix of DotA and Team Fortress
These are ours Colleagues from Insider Gaming who may have had additional information: They claim to have had gameplay sequences of the game, but they are not allowed to publish them. With these videos in hand, Insider Gaming confirms GabeFollower’s comments and provides details about Deadlock. The latter is currently in the alpha phase and therefore in its infancy. There are still experiments with the game, be it in terms of substance (the gameplay) but also in terms of form (artistic materials).
Currently, Deadlock includes 19 different heroes with different playstyles. There are healers, assassins, but also characters who specialize in taking damage or using long-range attacks. Like League of Legend or Dota 2, Deadlock features a “minion” mechanic that must be killed to recover gold coins (in this case, souls). These are used to exchange equipment that improves your character.. And so the players must assert themselves in order to take control of the opponent’s base.
However, it is necessary to highlight the precocity of Deadlock. As I said, the latter is only in the alpha phase. If the game really exists, there is a world of difference between its current state and the state it was in when it was released. Along the way, ideas can emerge, others can be pushed aside. And this maturation period, essential to fostering creativity in developers, can sometimes take a long time. You must therefore be patient with Valve’s new game and, above all, moderate your enthusiasm.
