The already long story of suffering of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 continues to have no end, as the role-playing game has now been postponed again.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 continues to work hard to join the long list of games whose development time can easily break records. The tale of suffering of the successor to the 2004 cult role-playing game is already long enough, but it will not end this year either, which was to be expected given the radio silence surrounding the game.
As the current developer The Chinese Room and publisher Paradox Interactive confirmed at Gamescom, the planned release in autumn this year will also be loudly canceled. Instead, they are now aiming for the first half of 2025. Well, a release this autumn would probably not have been productive anyway given the strong competition, but this statement is not exactly satisfactory either.
The main reason given for the further delay is quality issues. The game is at a stage that would have allowed a release within the planned time frame, but further fine-tuning of the game has a higher priority.
In a Statement on the official website says of the delay: “This will create a quality assurance buffer that gives us more time between testing and release so we can release the game when it’s ready. The extra time will give us the opportunity to adjust certain areas, such as Fabien, and take other community feedback into account. We will also use the time to expand the game’s story. Bloodlines 2 will now have more than twice as many endings as its predecessor.”
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has had quite a wild development history. The game itself was officially announced in 2019, but development obviously did not go according to plan – the original studio was taken away from the project and a new developer, The Chinese Room, was commissioned, who more or less rebooted it with a new technical basis.
Parallel to the statement, a new developer update was also published in video form.
