Ubisoft recently confirmed that Star Wars Outlaws, its open-world game planned for PS5, Xbox Series and PC, has moved into gold, nearly two months ahead of its scheduled release on August 30, 2024. This crucial step means that development on version 1.0 of the game is complete, and physical copies can now be produced while studio Massive Entertainment prepares day-one updates and post-release DLCs.
The development team shared their excitement on Twitter, saying: “Our team can’t wait for you to start exploring the Outer Rim and living the life of a ne’er-do-well – August 30th can’t come soon enough!“Early access to the game will be available for those who pre-order the Gold or Ultimate Editions starting August 27, 2024.
Star Wars Outlaws is set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. This promising framework received mixed reactions when it was unveiled at Summer Game Fest. While the idea of exploring a galaxy far, far away is enticing, early demos showed very linear gameplay that was more reminiscent of Uncharted, with limited player freedom. This is of course still to be confirmed, as a large portion of players also seem to be pretty excited about all of this.
Despite this mixed feedback, the developers have assured that the demo represents only a small part of the overall experience the game will offer, and this assurance was enough to get fans excited.
