Am 11. November 2021 GTA fans can once again pay a visit to the virtual cities of Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas. On this date, Rockstar is releasing the game collection with the subtly bulky title Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.
A first gameplay trailer revealed what the games, some of which are almost 20 years old, with their new graphic splendor, made my colleague Dimi damn happy. Check out his column to see why this remaster is exactly what he always wanted:

GTA remaster and original in graphics comparison
But how much has actually changed with the remaster trilogy in direct comparison with the original? The YouTube channel now answers this question SD1ONE the answer, which juxtaposes scenes from the trailer, but also official screenshots with recordings of the original versions of GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas.

What are the main differences?
In the video from SD1ONE it becomes clear: The remaster trilogy actually still gets a lot out of the now dusty GTA classics. The following major improvements can be seen:
- Lighting: First of all, of course, the improved reflections and lighting effects should catch your eye. The play worlds are generally brighter, while reflections in the paintwork of the vehicles shimmer, thanks in part to the numerous redesigned light sources. And the textures themselves appear much sharper, which contributes to the general appearance.
- Character models: All figures have stronger facial expressions and improved facial animations, but the body and clothing itself also appear much more detailed. Even the weapons that the characters are holding in their hands have been tackled again.
- Game world: Streets, buildings, and billboards, but Rockstar has redesigned plants, trees, palms, and leaves. In general, the hustle and bustle in the game worlds seems much more lively, as there are more cars and passers-by. The GTA 3 tram in particular benefits from the remaster and is no longer angular. The foresight was also increased.
- Explosions: All three games are given the same explosion effects in the remaster trilogy, which are at least a tad more realistic.
