EA is changing because the company is changing the franchise of Battlefield.
These changes began when Vince Zampella, co-founder of Respawn Entertainment, will be in charge of the franchise. His new position is close behind DICE GM Oskar Gabrielson leaves the studio.
Another change in leadership put Halo designer Marcus Lehto in charge of bringing more content to the series. He opened a new studio in Seattle to focus on bringing more storytelling elements to the series. His new studio will work with DICE and Battlefield Portal developer Ripple Effect, which, according to GameSpot, is “developing a new battlefield experience in the Battlefield 2042 universe.”
The studio will work together to “expand and improve Battlefield 2042”, as well as future battlefield games and experiences, which will be “expanded” as part of the “Battlefield World”.
“This is a strategy of’and’ in many ways,” Zampela told GameSpot. “We will continue to develop and develop “Battlefield 2042”, we will explore new experiences and business models, and add new content on this basis, to provide our players with a series of outstanding experiences.
“In this universe, the world is interconnected with shared characters and narratives. This universe is also built with our community because we use the power of Portal and user-generated content to put creativity in the hands of our players.
“We intend to build a battlefield world with multiple player-centric, interrelated projects. We plan to develop the battlefield and meet players through various experiences and business models, including our upcoming Battlefield mobile version of Alex Seropian, which will be launched in 2022. And industrial toys.”
How this new interconnected universe will work and what experiences and games it will contain is not yet known, and it is not yet clear at the early stages of the development process.
“Battlefield 2042” was released in November, and a huge patch was recently updated, bringing many fixes, weekly missions, HUD changes, and more.
