Did you come home from get off work today eager to try Warzone 2.0 – The latest battle royale experiment from call-of-duty, plunder, infinite wardand Activision? When you try to log in for the first time, have you ever encountered an annoying popup telling you that you can’t play because your game client is ‘waiting for data center‘? Well, you’re not the only one.
This problem is very common.I’m writing this because my Xbox Series X is trying to connect to Activision servers via modern warfare 2. I thought I passed it a second ago, but after a small game-side update, I was directed back to the start menu. Now my watch starts again.
take a quick look Social media shows that this problem is also happening around the world. The “waiting for data center” prompt and timeout issues also seem to be platform-agnostic (that is: you can still be in the queue whether you’re on Xbox, PlayStation, or PC).
Location tags on social media seem to indicate that, at the time of writing, mainly EU servers are struggling to work for players. Players in North America seem to be playing slightly better, but servers on that side of the world probably won’t be stuck inside with a bunch of Brits on a rainy night, eager to get into Warzone 2.0.
Currently, there is no official advisory byte from the developer or publisher for this bug, nor is there a specific fix for WOLTERS – FRANCIS on the official Modern Warfare 2 help pages. For these problems, it usually depends on the server capacity of the game side. Therefore, there is little you can do except wait.
You might want to restart your machine or your internet connection just in case it’s an issue on your side, but that’s unlikely to do anything meaningful at this point.
We’ve seen similar issues with other Activision Blizzard games recently — most notably around the release of Overwatch 2. The problem was eventually resolved, but it took a few days and stopping the ongoing DDoS attack to speed things up. Let’s hope Call of Duty isn’t that bad.
We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
In the meantime, read on to find out if you want all the guns in the game, you’re going to have to play more games than Warzone, or why console players need to mute their damn mics.
