Want to know where The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Kingdom of Tears fit in the Legend of Zelda timeline? The answer may disappoint you

answer, Breath, disappoint, Fit, Kingdom, Legend, tears, timeline, Wild, Zelda

You can stop arguing about where The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Kingdom of Tears fit in the timeline, because Nintendo has settled the issue.

Some Zelda games are obviously related to each other in various ways, like The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is clearly a sequel to Ocarina of Time, while A Link to the Past, A Link to the Past 2, and The Legend of Zelda: Zelda’s Awakening all feature Link and Zelda. But for the most part, the timeline isn’t really that important, despite Nintendo making it canon with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule History in 2011. It’s fun to think about how the games’ respective histories might have influenced each other, but it’s not important – and even so, people still argue about where The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Kingdom of Tears fit into that timeline. It turns out they’re not anywhere.

Nintendo appears to have shared a new look at Zelda’s history at Nintendo Live 2024 in Sydney, as reported by Vooks, and you can clearly see that Breath of the Wild and Kingdom of Tears are separated from the other games. There isn’t even a line between them, suggesting they aren’t that closely connected, and considering Kingdom of Tears barely acknowledges Breath of the Wild, that’s pretty true.

Ever since The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was announced in 2017, fans have been speculating about where the game should be placed, given the various references to almost all games, in all major timelines. Kingdom Tears doesn’t clarify much either, but if you’re a knowledgeable person who isn’t interested in such things, you’ll at least get answers, even if it might be frustrating or disappointing to some of you. Oh well! I’m sure you’ll all be pretty normal with it.
