Blizzard Entertainment should soon make the comeback of a real real-time strategy gem official. A new edition of Warcraft II is apparently in the works.
As is well known, Blizzard Entertainment has announced a Warcraft Direct for November 13th – and a new edition of Warcraft II will most likely be announced at this event. Similar to StarCraft: Remastered or Diablo II: Resurrected, the cult developer could now proceed with a Warcraft II: Remastered and announce the game to coincide with Warcraft’s 30th anniversary on November 15th this year.
The re ason for this assumption is that footage was accidentally leaked via Battle.net, which revolves around an internal alpha test phase of Warcraft II: Remastered. This was discovered by data miner Stiven and not encrypted by Blizzard. The key art shows Anduin Lothar sailing towards Ork Grunts on an Alliance ship.
Parts of Warcraft II can already be played in Warcraft III: Reforged thanks to a fan campaign, but now there is also an official remaster from Blizzard. Stiven’s leak was subsequently picked up and “confirmed” by Marlamin and Chaud – both very reliable sources and insiders in the Warcraft community. The said alpha test phase has now also become visible via BlizzTracker.
The official confirmation from Blizzard should follow in a week as part of Warcraft Direct. Warcraft II: Remastered will probably be a beefed up game version of the classic with significantly improved graphics and further optimizations for modern PCs. As with the previous such new editions from Blizzard mentioned above (StarCraft, Diablo II), the gameplay should be adopted unchanged.
Further announcements about the franchise can be expected from Warcraft Direct. A major announcement about Warcraft III: Reforged is likely, and a mount bundle for World of Warcraft is also expected.
