It is finished! With Total War: Warhammer 3, Creative Assembly has completed the Warhammer trilogy it started in 2016 and – based on the Metacritic average ratings – has increased from game to game: the first Warhammer offshoot has 86 points, the second at 87, the third at 88.
Maurice »Kairos« (Destiny) Weaver discusses how they managed to do this in the podcast with Warhammer testers Fabiano and Shurjoka, who regularly play Warhammer 3 (and previously Warhammer 2). streams on Twitch.
For example, Creative Assembly has managed not to make the simple economic system more complex, but to better balance it with a traditional strength of the fantasy parts: the very different peoples equipped with individual mechanics. Much more than in the historical series parts à la Total War: Rome 2, the feel of the game changes significantly depending on which faction you lead. And you can even add units from other races to your army!

The new campaign mechanism is debatable. Because Creative Assembly is moving more and more away from the classic Total War sandbox and is practicing story-based campaigns – with mixed success. While the Soul Hunt in the Chaos Realms fits the Warhammer setting better than Warhammer 2’s abstract maelstrom race, it’s still far from well thought out or really well balanced. And by the second run at the latest, it’s getting more and more boring. It was not for nothing that a tip immediately circulated on Reddit, how to turn off the chaos portals
For sandbox fans, there will be the major campaign Immortal Empires, which is intended to weld all three Warhammer games into a complete world map. However, it is not enough if Creative Assembly takes over the maps 1:1 from the previous games, the developers will have to rebuild some things. Accordingly, our podcasters doubt that, like part 2, it will work just one month after the release – but they agree that the huge campaign is urgently needed because of the weaknesses of the chaos campaign!
Until then, you can follow Maurice on Twitch watch the curse. He currently streams a co-op campaign in Cathay with Shurjoka and his solo campaign with the Demon Prince on a regular basis.
