Since the release of Warhammer 40K: Darktide, criticism from the most persistent players has increased.

Warhammer 40K: Darktide will not be getting any new content for the time being. However, there is a good reason for this: On Steam the co-op shooter is currently facing a lot of criticism, the most recent player reviews are standing up mostly negative. Developer Fatshark draws conclusions from this and promises to improve.

What exactly that means is summarized for you in the following article. In our test for the launch in December 2022, Darktide was able to convince us in terms of play, but there was still a devaluation. You can read why exactly in the detailed GameStar review:

This shooter is the (war) hammer!

What is the current status on Steam? No, Warhammer 40K: Darktide is not a bad game in general. In this regard, most fans and players of the co-op shooter agree. Nevertheless, criticism has increased in the last few weeks and days in the user reviews on Steam – especially from loyal players who have already invested several hundred hours in Darktide.

What exactly is the problem? While aspects such as the actual gameplay, the facets of the different classes, the graphics and atmosphere of the dark co-op shooter receive praise, other points of Darktide are increasingly criticized. The following are particularly striking:

  • The performance and the technical condition continue to cause problems – a fact that we already criticized in our GameStar test at the end of 2022.
  • Originally promised but still missing features like modifying weapons or a strong story focus are missing.
  • The playful variety leaves a lot to be desired in the long run, which is mainly attributed to a lack of endgame.
  • The crafting seems unfinished, incomplete and undercooked.
  • The in-game shop is criticized for its strong focus on real money, especially in view of Darktide’s other problems – Fatshark had already promised improvement here in the past.

Here’s how Darktide continues: In view of the criticism, the developers of Fatshark have promised improvement and want to take drastic consequences in some cases. In an official statement Twitter announced the following actions, which will take priority over the coming weeks and months:

  • They want to take player feedback into account and work on Darktide’s crafting system, progression system motivation, stability and performance as soon as possible.
  • To ensure this, new content and the release of Darktide for Xbox Series X/S will be postponed. The planned release of new premium cosmetics is completely suspended.

It is currently not known when exactly the planned measures will take effect and what they will ultimately look like. As soon as there is new information in this regard, we will of course let you know. You can read the full statement from developer Fatshark as follows:
