It was to be expected that the MCU’s success would draw a lot of covetousness and that DC would obviously want to take inspiration from it to create its own cinematic universe.
As announced by Hollywood reportersDuring the second quarter earnings conference call, Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav spoke about the future of DC Comics movies in theaters. It must be said that the fate of DC Films has attracted a lot of interest in recent days, especially with the cessation of the Batgirl series. A series that still cost 90 million dollars.
A 10-year plan for DC
Zaslav is pretty clear on DC and really wants to give us a DCU worthy of the movie’s name. Better yet, he wants to be directly inspired by Disney’s work with Marvel. And for that, he didn’t hesitate to consult with the director of Disney’s retired cinema, Alan Horn (one of the fathers of the MCU).
Check out his various statements:
Our goal is to produce great, high-quality films, and when we look at the opportunities we have, DC is at the top of the list for us.
You look at Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, these are brands that are known all over the world. And being able to bring it out into the world through a great s tory is a great opportunity for us. We did a reset. We have restructured the company. We’re going to focus on a team with a 10-year plan focused solely on the DC Universe.
The aim is to develop the DC brand. Grow DC Characters. But our job is also to protect the brand, and we will do that.
It’s very similar to the structure that Alan Horn and Bob Iger built very effectively with Kevin Feige at Disney.
Alan Horn and the DC/Warner duo will therefore be making a DCU proposal very soon, it remains to be seen what will happen to all the mythology introduced by Snyder that fans hold dear. Not to mention the fact that an actor like Henry Cavill Whoever plays Superman is loved by everyone. Are we entitled to a soft restart? Or, on the contrary, a complete reboot with new actors? What a place for the Batman with Pattinson? In short, many questions remain unanswered.
