It seems like people are really hungry for some good old fashioned medieval games. While Lords of the Manor took the internet by storm just a month ago, it looks like another popular game is quietly making its way onto Steam Early Access. Bellwright passed the 200,000 sales milestone just one month after launching on the platform.
The game spent several months in closed beta before release, only providing developer updates to ardent fans to quell their hunger. Meanwhile, the game’s wish list has doubled, crossing the one million mark, with a whopping 822,628 people interested in learning more.
This must have come as a relief to the developers behind Bellwright. Not just for the usual reasons – making a game is an anxiety-ridden process for anyone who’s ever experienced it – but also because Snail Games had a terrible PR experience with its previous game, The Last Oasis. After the game underwent a massive revamp of its PvP system, the game was essentially abandoned as the studio looked forward to new projects. As you can imagine, this frustrated many players. Bell Wright may have a chance to regain trust. Judging from these early numbers, there’s a lot of enthusiasm for the project.
Maybe now is indeed a good time to release a medieval game like Bellwright. We’ve teased this before, but Lords of the Manor has only recently burst onto the scene in a serious way, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that there’s a large enough fanbase interested in this setting to warrant an ambitious game built around it Big game.
Either way, Bell Wright is one to watch. You can buy it now on Steam for £24.99, or the equivalent in your region.
