Capcom released a new trailer shortly after exogenous During its Showcase event earlier this week, the publisher quietly dropped the expanded gameplay footage without all the shaky clips and interstitials.
The video is nearly 16 minutes long and showcases a full match of dinosaur survival, the game’s main mode, where two teams of five compete to kill dinosaurs and achieve their goals as quickly as possible.
Although the video is unfortunately limited to 1080p-60fps, it provides a better understanding of the mechanics and flow of the game. One of the main criticisms the game has faced is actually less about the content and more about the video capture itself.
Exoprimal is a game about fighting numerous dinosaurs crammed into a long corridor. The effects and visual style don’t work well with YouTube’s compression, cluttering the presentation and taking away from the game’s charm.
Still, this new video is long enough to give you a good idea of Exoprimal’s lessons and the different objectives in the mode. Classes in particular are the highlight of the show, with a clear distinction between melee, ranged, tanking, and healing.
We’ve even seen players dismount and switch classes between goals, which should be easier to adapt to situations, let alone try out different classes. The action looks gorgeous and satisfying, and it’s always a pleasure to see.
There are definitely some similarities between Exoprimal and Destiny 2’s Gambit mode. For example, near the end, teams have the opportunity to invade the opposing squad by taking control of the dinosaurs and delaying their goal progress.
While I’d still like to see a mode without the PvP aspect, this video does a better job of showing the different action mechanics compared to the original pitch video. Of course, many of these will be tested by closed network beta players – no start date has been set yet.
Exoprimal is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X sometime in 2023.
