"We are closer to the Matrix than people realize," Valve co-founder Gabe Newell said in a recent interview.
Newell expressed his views in an interview with IGN in Half-Life: Alex, in which he compared the return of John Wick to that line.
Newell explained that in his eyes, contemporary game design faces a series of interesting challenges, and Half-Life is Valve's "crowbar." He also firmly believes that once people play Alyx, they will understand why Valve decided to transform the Half-Life world into virtual reality.
However, when Half-Life and Valve did not require his attention, his interest shifted to the study of brain-computer interfaces, which he called "long clues."
"We're closer to the matrix than people realize," Newell said. "It's not going to be the Matrix. The Matrix is a movie that misses all the interesting, technical nuances, and computers behind it. How weird the interface world will be. But it has a huge impact on the experiences we create for people. "
Newell also explained that this provided an "extinction" for any entertainment entity that did not consider it. In his eyes, connecting a person's motor and visual cortex is much easier than previously expected, which means that entertaining experimental forms (such as the transition from Half-Life to Alyx to virtual reality) will become the new norm, any The creator who didn't realize it might be left behind.
When asked if he was similar to Elon Musk in terms of artificial intelligence, Newell simply said that these concepts were far more complicated than people realized. "It's like trying to describe the Internet to someone who has never used it," he said.
You can view the full interview below. Half-Life: Alyx will be released on Steam on March 23, 2020. Presumably, Half-Life: Alyx is the first of several new Half-Life games. If you are curious about the desired result, check out Half-Life: Alyx gameplay.
Cheers, IGN.
