Yes, you read that right. Another AI article from GameStar. That’ll soon be a running gag like with Spiel X in Unreal Engine 5
we are fully aware.
But after the articles from our tech colleagues, we just couldn’t help it and wanted artificial intelligence Midjourney ask some gaming questions.
The AI creates a painting based on keywords. Colleague Nils asked Midjourney, for example, who will rule the world in 100 years:
AI asked
Who will rule the world in 100 years?
We decided to ask the AI for a glimpse into the far distant gaming future. Kind of like asking a Magic 8 Ball questions. You know, the giant plastic billiard ball that is said to be able to see into the future.
The result is also relatively similar: Completely meaningless, certainly wrong and still interesting and fun. After all, we don’t just get boring yes-no answers, but chic illustrations. But see for yourself:
Half-Life 3
Will it ever appear? Questionable. Would it be a success? Certainly! Hardly any game is more eagerly desired by the gaming community than Half-Life 3. But since Valve just doesn’t seem to want to deliver, the AI has to be there. And she spat out the following picture:
Well, what more can one say about that. It’s always chic, the style of the games is even halfway there. The orange tone of the logo is also very present, but everything else is relatively meaningless. Where’s Gordon Freeman? The Combine invaders? And are those long-legged things supposed to be Striders? The AI remains vague. We’d rather wait for the day when Valve announces Part 3. Even if it may never come.
Of course, we also had to ask the AI about the next Elder Scrolls! In contrast to Half-Life 3, there was at least a tiny teaser to see:
0:36
The Elder Scrolls 6 – Teaser Trailer: It does exist, but don’t expect it any time soon
Of course, the now four-year-old teaser revealed pretty much nothing about the game – the AI made it the same as the video:
We see… a pile of rocks? In the meantime we are slowly tending towards the Magic 8 Ball again, which at least gives more concrete answers. Where in Tamriel is that supposed to be? Hm, this illustration could be from Sykrim. Or just as well from almost any other fantasy RPG. No, we correct it: it could be from any other game, regardless of genre. Too bad.
GTA 6
Here we have another exciting comparison: We also asked the AI for an illustration of GTA 6 – before the massive leak. Of course, after the internet was flooded with images and videos of GTA 6, we asked the AI again for a painting.
Maybe the main character will change now
we thought. We may now see two figures, or there may be clear locations of Vice City
, we imagined, naive as we were. You can see the results here.
Ultimately, the differences between the images are marginal. The person at the top right is the most exciting. But she doesn’t look anything like that of the two new main characters. With a lot of imagination, this could be Michael from GTA 5… with a lot of imagination.
A comforting realization
Even though the illustrations could disappoint and not deliver the desired results, the whole thing did clearly something good: This AI only cooks with water! We are obviously still a long way from games being created solely by artificial intelligence, let alone conquering the world like in Terminator.
Admittedly, midjourney AI wasn’t designed to answer questions or see into the future. Instead, it simply grabs keywords from the query and calculates an image from the hits.
It was clear that we would not get an absolutely accurate work of art from this. But we were hoping for a more fitting picture. At least she was Mixture of already existing games and world famous artists definitely more effective.
What do you think of the AI generated images? Is this exactly how you imagined a Half-Life 3 or Elder Scrolls 6 or are the paintings far from it? Tell us in the comments!
